This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This backdoor creates the following folders:

  • %System Root%\Users
  • %System Root%\Users\Public
  • %System Root%\Users\Public\msoffice
  • %System Root%\Users\Public\msoffice\Files

(Note: %System Root% is the Windows root folder, where it usually is C:\ on all Windows operating system versions.)

Autostart Technique

This backdoor adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
OutlookUpdater = "%System Root%\Users\Public\msoffice\procesor.exe"
