This Trojan arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.

Installation

This Trojan drops and executes the following files:

  • %User Profile%\tmb.bat
    • The said .BAT file contains the following strings which is capable of adding registry for the Autostart Technique of another malware:
      • REG ADD "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /V "My App" /t REG_SZ /F /D "%User Profile%\NTUSER.dat{random(8 characters)-random(4 characters)-random(4 characters)-random(4 characters)-random(12 characters)}.exe" del tmp.bat

(Note: %User Profile% is the current user's profile folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name} on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name} on Windows Vista and 7.)

Dropping Routine

This Trojan drops the following files:

  • %User Profile%\NTUSER.dat{random(8 characters)-random(4 characters)-random(4 characters)-random(4 characters)-random(12 characters)}.exe --> detected as TROJ_ROZENA.EA

(Note: %User Profile% is the current user's profile folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name} on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name} on Windows Vista and 7.)

Step 1

Search and delete these files
