This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan adds the following processes:

  • netsh interface tcp set heuristics ws=disabled
  • powershell -enc {base-64 encoded command}
  • shutdown /r /f /c "Critical_Windows_Update" /t 120

It creates the following folders:

  • {Execution Path}\SystemConfigInfo000

This Trojan drops the following files:

    • socks4a.js
  • {Execution Path}\SystemConfigInfo000\WinDivert.dll
  • {Execution Path}\SystemConfigInfo000\WinDivert32.sys
  • {Execution Path}\SystemConfigInfo000\WinDivert64.sys

Download Routine

This Trojan accesses websites to download the following files:

  • https://{BLOCKED}s.org/dist/latest-v10.x/win-x86/node.exe

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • {Execution Path}\SystemConfigInfo000\node.exe → legitimate nodejs

Other Details

This Trojan does the following:

  • It executes the file app.js using node.exe with the IP address {BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.117.194 as an argument.
  • It checks if it has admin privileges by creating %System%\IsAdm.txt, then deleting it afterwards.

Step 1
