This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following non-malicious file:

  • %User Temp%\ÖJOƒ°,clÇ¢ºzI¶UY±£OI.f¶_·ÖIö.xls - .XLS file that the malware opens to hide its malicious routines.

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)

This Trojan does not have any propagation routine.

Dropping Routine

This Trojan drops the following files:

  • %User Temp%\SelfRelease.exe - detected as TROJ_AGENT.AGN

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)

It takes advantage of unknown vulnerabilities in the following software to drop malicious files:

It executes the dropped file(s). As a result, malicious routines of the dropped files are exhibited on the affected system.

NOTES:

This Trojan contains an embedded malicious .SWF file named as mampo.swf.. It uses the embedded file to successfully exploit the specific vulnerability. The malicious .SWF file is detected by Trend Micro as SWF_EXPLOIT.MPG.

The embedded .SWF file runs upon opening this trojan. As a result, routines of the malware are exhibited on the infected system.

This Trojan does not have rootkit capabilities.

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
