This Trojan adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

This Trojan adds the following registry keys:

Other Details

Based on analysis of the codes, it has the following capabilities:

  • Drops 6 copies of itself, one copy each in the random folders found in %Program Files%. The file name used is based on a file found inside the folder where a copy is to be dropped.

(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.)

It connects to the following URL(s) to check for an Internet connection:

  • http://yahoo.com
  • http://msn.com
  • http://google.com

It connects to the following possibly malicious URL:

  • http://{BLOCKED}.asia/httpss/v=%7brandom numbers}&step={random numbers}&hostid={random numbers}
  • http:/{BLOCKED}-foryou.com/httpss/v={random numbers}&step={random numbers}&hostid={random numbers}

Rogue Antivirus Routine

This Trojan displays the following fake alerts:

  • Your computer is being used as spamming machine. You can get sued for spam.
  • Your computer WILL BE DISCONNECTED FORM INTERNET BECAUSE SPAMMING OTHER PCs.
  • Your computer might be at risk
  • No firewall is turned on
  • Automatic Updates is turned off
  • Antivirus software might not be activated
  • Click this balloon to fix this problem.

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Identify and terminate files detected as TROJ_KATUSHA.K
