This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Download Routine

This Trojan accesses websites to download the following files:

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %System Root%\ProgramData\modr.zip

(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

NOTES:

The downloaded file %System Root%\ProgramData\modr.zip contains the following files:

  • WindowsMediaPlayer.dll detected as TROJ_INJECT.ZCC
  • wlanagent.cpl detected as TROJ_BANLOAD.ZCC
  • wlanguard.cpl detected as TROJ_BANLOAD.ZCC
  • wlanuac.cpl detected as TROJ_BANLOAD.ZCC

It then extracts the said files as the following:

  • %System Root%\ProgramData\WindowsMediaPlayer.dll
  • %System Root%\ProgramData\wlanagent.cpl
  • %System Root%\ProgramData\wlanguard.cpl
  • %System Root%\ProgramData\wlanuac.cpl

It then executes the said files. As a result, malicious routines of these files are exhibited on the affected system.
