Backdoor Routine

This backdoor executes the following commands from a remote malicious user:

  • download and execute a third party remote desktop protocol software to gain remote access
  • download arbitrary files
  • elevate access
  • terminate self
  • find arbitrary files
  • create proxy
  • retrieve stolen local user passwords to C&C
  • reboot OS
  • run arbitrary files
  • load and execute arbitrary files
  • create and send screenshot capture
  • set arbitrary site as C&C
  • sleep
  • create tunnel to arbitrary network address
  • download updated copy

NOTES:

This detection is for the server component of the backdoor detected as BKDR_CARBANAK. It is used by cybercriminals/attackers to send malicious commands.
