To restart in Safe Mode:

• For Windows 2000 users

1. Restart your computer.
2. Press F8 when you see the Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen.
3. Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options menu then press Enter.

• For Windows XP users

1. Restart your computer.
2. Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) routine is done. If the Windows Advanced Options menu does not appear, try restarting then pressing F8 several times when the POST screen appears.

1. Open Registry Editor. Click Start>Run, type REGEDIT, then press Enter.
2. In the left panel, double-click the following:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Main
3. In the right panel, locate the registry value:
   Start Page = "http://www.{BLOCKED}l.ru/cnt/9516"
4. Right-click on the value name and choose Modify. Change the value data of this entry to:
   Start Page = "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd
5. In the left panel, double-click the following:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Toolbar>WebBrowser
6. In the right panel, locate the registry value:
   ITBarLayout = "{random values}"
7. Right-click on the value name and choose Modify. Change the value data of this entry to:
   ITBarLayout = "{random values}"
8. Close Registry Editor.

To delete malware/grayware component files:

1. Search for the following files:
   
   • %System Root%\excount
   • %User Temp%\installer0406289430.tmp
   • %User Temp%\MailRuSputnik.exe
   • %User Temp%\1d978fe2ee942913bf19975c0a5e0b50c9fd.html
   • %User Temp%\5E048674EA314F03A96B1C3051B15530.html
   • %Favorites%\Mail.Ru.url
   • %Favorites%\Mail.Ru ????? - ????????? ??? ???????!.url
   • %Application Data%\Mail.Ru\GoMailRu.ico
   • %Desktop%\?????? ? ?????????.url
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru\Sputnik\MailRuSputnik.dll
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru\Sputnik\SputnikHelper.exe
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru\Sputnik\SputnikFlashPlayer.exe
   • %User Temp%\GuardMailRu.exe
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru\Guard\GuardMailRu.exe
   • %User Profile%\{dcd48218-e972-4d0c-9e5f-43462bc13e3b}\{9bed5ee2-0547-4706-8600-d3897629ade0}
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru\Sputnik\MailRuSputnik.exe
   
   Note: To do a search for the following files, right-click Start then click Search... or Find..., depending on the version of Windows you are running. For each file to be deleted, type its file name in the Named input box. In the Look In drop-down list, select My Computer, then press Enter.
2. Once located, select the file then press SHIFT+DELETE to permanently delete the file.
3. Repeat the said steps for all files listed.

To delete malware/grayware folders:

1. Right-click Start then click Search... or Find..., depending on the version of Windows you are running.
2. In the Named input box, type:
   
   • %Application Data%\Mail.Ru
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru\Sputnik
   • %Program Files%\Mail.Ru\Guard
   • %User Profile%\Application Data\{DCD48218-E972-4d0c-9E5F-43462BC13E3B}
3. In the Look In drop-down list, select My Computer, then press Enter.
4. Once located, select the folder then press SHIFT+DELETE to permanently delete the folder.
5. Repeat the said steps for all folders listed.
