Trend Micro keeps global payroll firm Immedis secure and compliant
Few organisations have access to as much sensitive personal and financial client information as payroll providers. Immedis is one such business, offering SaaS-based payroll for its global customers. From its headquarters in Ireland, the firm’s 400-strong team now serves clients in over 150 countries—delivering innovative, business-critical payroll solutions to keep them secure and compliant.
Born in the cloud
Immedis’ 100% cloud-based IT infrastructure served it well during the pandemic, enabling employees to switch seamlessly to remote working during the various lockdowns. But it also comes with its own unique security, compliance and operational challenges, with the team aware of the mounting risk from advanced attacks.
These are aimed not only at the firm’s SaaS workloads but also its cloud based Office365 environment. Phishing remains a number one threat for organisations today—the starting point of attacks as diverse as cryptojacking and banking fraud. Email accounted for over 80% of all threats blocked by Trend Micro in the first half of 2021, and organisations are increasingly finding their SaaS email provider’s own protections aren’t sufficient. The threat to corporate endpoints has also surged during the pandemic, as cyber-criminals look to target potentially insecure laptops and distracted home workers.
Securing endpoints, cloud, and email
Given these challenges, Immedis engaged local partner DNM, now part of Deloitte, who recommended Trend Micro Deep Security for workload protection. When it subsequently came to endpoint and cloud email security, Trend Micro was the natural choice.
Saving time and effort
The team at Immedis was originally attracted to the Trend Micro offerings because they offered optimised security without being a drain on resources. Immedis has not been disappointed by the results.
“With other products we felt there was a lot of bloat—of consuming too many resources on machines,” David Quirke, CISO at Immedis said. “With Trend Micro you don’t get that. Plus, there’s consolidation of management and reporting onto the cloud portals, which makes everything easier for us. It saves us time and effort.”
Trend Micro capabilities like data loss prevention on endpoints have also ensured David and his team can not only deflect external threats but also manage internal risk.
“Security is not a destination it’s a journey. And Trend Micro helps us on that journey by giving me the feeling that they’re on top of things every step of the way.”
