Celebrating 3 years of the Cybersecurity Tech Accord
Cybersecurity Tech Accords has grown significantly in the past 3 years, today having 150 signatories across 5 continents, united in the fight against cybercrime.
It’s always been our belief that together we can be more than the sum of our parts. That’s why we prioritize engaging with the security and technology community and beyond to achieve more. It’s also why we didn’t have to think twice about joining the Cybersecurity Tech Accord as a founding member three years ago. Here is an organization that shares our commitment to creating a safer digital world through collaboration, collective action and leadership.
A lot has happened since we joined back in 2018. But we remain as committed now as we were then to the values that have encouraged a growing number of organizations to join the Accord.
Our core values
Back in April 2018, 34 technology companies including Trend Micro signed on with the Cybersecurity Tech Accord. On that basis, we committed to its four guiding principles:
Protecting our customers, whomever and wherever they are, with products and services that enhance security and privacy, integrity and reliability.
Opposing attacks on innocent parties, be they individuals or enterprises, by protecting against exploitation and tampering with our products and refusing to assist government efforts to launch cyber-attacks.
Empowering users and developers to improve protection by giving them the right information and tools, and by supporting government and societal efforts to enhance cybersecurity capacity globally.
Partnering with each other to enhance security, across industry, civil society and the research community, as well as encouraging greater information sharing.
I’m proud to say that Trend Micro has been a vocal and active participant in these endeavors over the years. As nation states become more aggressive in cyberspace and the cybercrime economy continues to grow, participation in this initiative has never been more important. And in a post-pandemic world in which all things digital will become an even greater part of our lives, it will continue to be unerringly relevant.
Elevating the discussion
It’s been particularly exciting to see the Cybersecurity Tech Accord member base grow over recent months. The past year has seen it become a truly international entity, with organizations participating across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. Today there are over 150 members, including many from outside the cybersecurity space. This is vital if we want to elevate the discussion to a policymaker level: governments need to see that organizations across industries and public and private sectors are serious about our aims.
As a recent Cybersecurity Tech Accord-sponsored report clearly illustrated, nation states are at the heart of the challenge we have in making the digital world a safer place. Executives fear that, in a few years, the threat they represent will be second only to organized crime. Yet despite this, governments can and must also be part of the solution. The Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace is a great example of what can be achieved when they’re persuaded to come together for a common good and unite with industry, civil society and academia.
So we stand alongside our fellow members at the Cybersecurity Tech Accord. And we continue to further its principles in everything we do, every day. You can see them in our continued product development, our global research, our collaboration with law enforcement, our internet safety programs, and our support for the world’s largest vendor-agnostic bug bounty program. These principles have always been an intrinsic part of who Trend Micro is and always will be — as we strive to secure the connected world.
