Graybar Canada is a subsidiary of Graybar Electric Company, Inc., a leading distributor of electrical and lighting components, communications and data networking equipment, and security systems. Graybar Canada specializes in supply chain management and logistics services for construction, commercial, institutional, and industrial markets. To protect its business and customers as a major supplier of critical infrastructure components, the company needs to stay on top of security threats. CHALLENGES

Fougere and his team were concerned about their lack of full visibility into Graybar Canada’s attack surface and the threats the company was vulnerable to. “Our top security challenge was not really knowing what was out there,” says Fougere. “We needed better integration with our existing threat intelligence feeds from our different security products so we could make better decisions.” With multiple disparate security tools, it was often overwhelming for Fougere and his team to monitor and measure risk. “We were stuck in a reactive state limited by time and visibility. When we received alerts, we spent considerable time to determine if it was background noise or something that needed to be urgently addressed. We were trying to stay on top of everything,” says Fougere.

We can now make more informed decisions about resource allocation and risk management strategies to ensure that our security efforts are better aligned with business priorities and objectives.

WHY TREND

Adding ASRM allowed for better integration with existing threat intelligence feeds from Microsoft Azure and Graybar Canada’s other deployments. “We can now make more informed decisions about resource allocation and risk management strategies to ensure our security efforts are better aligned with business priorities and objectives,” adds Fougere.

RESULTS

Moving from siloed security to a platform-centric approach has been a gamechanger for Graybar Canada. “Having consolidated data saves time every day, and allows our team to shift from a reactive mode to a proactive one,” says Fougere.

Trend Vision One also helps the Graybar Canada team identify risks so they can quickly remediate and address them, allowing them to focus on other tasks. “ASRM is where I start my day. I address any critical items and see how things changed overnight before moving on to other activities,” says Fougere.

WHAT'S NEXT

Going forward, Graybar Canada will continue to monitor and adjust to the ever-evolving security landscape—relying on Trend to support those efforts. “Trend introduces new features all the time. Looking ahead, we’d like to work on automation through some of the scripting available. We’re also interested in things like forensics and building queries that can help us create our own threat sweeps and would certainly increase the power at our fingertips,” says Fougere.
